This 2-day tour connects Shanghai's urban fashion with Suzhou's Jiangnan elegance, with convenient high-speed rail connections (about 40 minutes). It covers core scenic spots, integrates local food and folk activities, and arranges a reasonable itinerary that is not rushed, allowing you to experience the dual charm of modern cities and classical towns.
• Explore Shanghai's iconic Bund and Pudong skyline, feeling the modern vitality of the city
• Visit Humble Administrator's Garden, the representative of Suzhou classical gardens
• Stroll Pingjiang Road, take a gondola and listen to Suzhou opera, experiencing Jiangnan water town life
• Taste Shanghai shengjian mantou, Suzhou sweet and sour mandarin fish, and other local delicacies
• Experience Suzhou embroidery making, a traditional folk craft, and take home hand-made souvenirs
Morning: Start your day at the Bund, a landmark waterfront area in Shanghai. Stroll along the 1.5-kilometer-long promenade, admire the 52 classical colonial-style buildings of different architectural styles (including Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance), and take photos at the famous Waibaidu Bridge, which is known as the "First Bridge in the East" and has witnessed the changes of Shanghai for over a century.
Afternoon: Head to Yu Garden and City God Temple, a gathering place of Shanghai's traditional culture. Yu Garden, built in the Ming Dynasty, is a classic Jiangnan garden with exquisite pavilions, terraces, ponds, and rockeries, where you can feel the charm of traditional Chinese garden art. Then wander around the City God Temple Bazaar, browse various traditional handicraft shops, and taste local snacks such as xiaolongbao, shengjian mantou, and osmanthus cake.
Evening: Take a 10-minute ferry across the Huangpu River to Pudong New Area, where you can enjoy the magnificent night view of Lujiazui's three iconic skyscrapers—the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Tower, and Jin Mao Tower. After admiring the night view, have dinner at a local restaurant nearby, tasting authentic Shanghai dishes such as braised pork in soy sauce and stir-fried eel slices, ending the beautiful first day.
Morning: Take the high-speed rail from Shanghai to Suzhou (about 40 minutes). Upon arrival, go directly to Humble Administrator's Garden, the largest and most representative classical garden in Suzhou and one of the four famous gardens in China. Walk through the garden, admire the exquisite layout of pavilions, terraces, buildings, pavilions, ponds, and rockeries, and feel the artistic conception of "a garden within a garden, a scene within a scene" in Jiangnan gardens.
Afternoon: Stroll along Pingjiang Road, an ancient water town street that has retained the style of old Suzhou for thousands of years. Walk on the bluestone road along the river, watch the small boats shuttling between the bridges, and listen to the boat ladies singing soft Suzhou opera. Then visit a local Suzhou embroidery workshop, where professional craftsmen will teach you simple embroidery techniques, allowing you to experience the charm of this traditional folk craft and take home your own hand-made small embroidery works as souvenirs.
Evening: Dine at a characteristic restaurant near Pingjiang Road, tasting Suzhou's famous dishes such as sweet and sour mandarin fish (with tender fish meat and sweet and sour sauce), braised pork ribs in brown sauce (soft and glutinous, full of flavor), and osmanthus cake (sweet but not greasy). After dinner, take the high-speed rail back to Shanghai, ending the 2-day pleasant trip.
