Panda Volunteer Progs
The giant panda programmes are working placements rather than visits. At the breeding and conservation bases around Chengdu, participants prepare bamboo and panda cake, help clean enclosures, record behaviour and weight data alongside the keepers, and learn how a breeding programme is actually managed. Longer programmes add field monitoring in the mountain reserves and the Dujiangyan irrigation system, a World Heritage site since 2000.
Lengths run from a two-day family volunteer weekend to a seven-day habitat protection and field monitoring programme. Volunteer numbers at the bases are capped each day and slots must be booked well in advance, so we confirm availability in writing before you commit.
