Overview

Guangzhou does not have many things that work well for children, and this is the exception. Chimelong Safari Park opened on 26 December 1997 in Panyu and holds more than five hundred species and over twenty thousand animals in large open enclosures, viewed either from a small train through the habitats or from a cable car above them.

The animals are the reason to choose this park over any other: it holds the world's only surviving giant panda triplets and the largest koala colony outside Australia, and has bred Chinese firsts including black leaf-monkey twins and a proboscis monkey infant. The guide manages the timings so that you reach the train before the queues and keeps you out of the worst of the heat, and the afternoon is left deliberately loose.

Admission is not included - the standard adult ticket is CNY 300, children, seniors and concession tickets are CNY 210 and youth tickets are CNY 240 - and is payable locally. The park is open 9:30 to 18:00. Tell us the ages of your children and whether you would prefer the half-day version.

Itinerary

Day 1Guangzhou Theme Day: Wildlife and a Family Day at Chimelong

Why this is the family day in Guangzhou
Guangzhou does not have many things that work well for children, and this is the exception. Chimelong Safari Park opened on 26 December 1997 in Panyu and is built on a scale none of the city's other attractions match: more than five hundred species and over twenty thousand animals, kept in large open enclosures rather than cages, and viewed either from a small train that runs through the habitats or from a cable car above them. That combination - safely contained, but with a horizon rather than a barrier - is what makes it work for a family day rather than an hour. The animals are the reason to choose this park over any other. It holds the world's only surviving giant panda triplets and the largest koala colony outside Australia, and has bred Chinese firsts including black leaf-monkey twins and a proboscis monkey infant. Your guide manages the morning so that you reach the train before the queues and then work against the flow of the crowd, and keeps you out of the worst of the heat.

Lunch
Lunch in the park.

Afternoon - pacing it properly
After lunch the guide takes the group through the panda and koala areas at the quietest hours, adds one or two of the keeper sessions, and leaves the last part of the afternoon loose: families with younger children usually need a slower finish, and there is a playground and a children's zoo for exactly that. We build the day with slack in it deliberately, because a park of this size defeats a tight schedule.

Practical points
Admission is not included in the price shown - the standard adult ticket is CNY 300, with children, seniors and concession tickets at CNY 210 and youth tickets at CNY 240 - and is payable locally. The park is open from 9:30 to 18:00 and is about forty to sixty minutes from the city centre, so the day starts early. Strollers and wheelchairs can be rented at the gate. If your family would prefer a half-day version, we run that separately; if you have teenagers, tell us and we will build in the roller-coaster park next door instead.

Trip Notes

What this day is. A private vehicle and guide taking a family to Chimelong Safari Park and managing the day so that the train and the main animal areas are done before the crowds build. Your guide accompanies you inside the park.

Practical notes. The park is about forty to sixty minutes from the city centre and opens at 9:30, so the day starts early. There is a lot of walking and standing in the heat; strollers and wheelchairs can be rented at the gate. Admission is payable locally. If you have teenagers, tell us - we will build in the neighbouring theme park instead, and if your children are under five we will slow the whole day down.

Q: Is this tour private or shared?
A: It is a private tour. Only your own party travels with the guide and vehicle, so the pace and the order of stops can be adjusted on the day.

Q: What is the best season for this itinerary?
A: April to June and September to November bring the mildest weather and clearest light. The programme runs year round, and we adjust the daily timings in mid-summer and winter.

Q: Can you handle dietary requirements and accessibility needs?
A: Yes. Vegetarian, halal, gluten-free and allergy-aware menus are arranged when you tell us in advance. Step-free and low-mobility versions of the route can also be planned.

Q: How do we book and pay?
A: Send us your travel dates and group size for a same-day quotation. A deposit confirms the booking, the balance is due before arrival, and prices are guaranteed for 7 days.
