The Yellow Mountains are walked, not viewed. The back mountain route climbs through pine forest to Beihai, the scenic heart of the massif, past the phoenix pines and the granite pillars that have been painted for a thousand years. A second day links Bright Summit, the highest point of the range, with the West Sea Canyon loop, a route of gorges and stairways that only opened in 2001.
Two-day hikes stay overnight on the summit so you can be out on the ridge before dawn, when the sea of clouds is most likely to appear.
