Huangshan Cultural Tours
Huizhou is the merchant culture that paid for the villages below the Yellow Mountains. In Hongcun and Xidi, both UNESCO World Heritage sites, whitewashed walls rise into horse-head gables and water still runs through the lanes in channels cut in the Ming dynasty. In Tunxi Old Street, the old commercial quarter of the city that is now Huangshan, you can watch an ink stick being made the traditional way - soot, glue and months of slow drying - at a workshop that still supplies calligraphers.
One and two-day tours combine both, with an English-speaking guide throughout.
