Overview

Hong Kong Disneyland opened in September 2005 at Penny's Bay, the first Disney park in China. It is also the smallest - about 27.4 hectares of public area against roughly 126 hectares of reclaimed resort land - and that is the reason a single day works here: the lands are close together, the walking is short, and most guests finish what they came for without the twelve-hour march the larger parks demand.

It opened with four lands and now has eight. Three expansions between 2011 and 2013 - Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point - gave the park attractions that exist nowhere else, above all Mystic Manor's trackless ride. The Castle of Magical Dreams replaced Sleeping Beauty Castle in 2020 at about twice the height, and World of Frozen opened in November 2023 as the first fully themed Frozen land in any Disney park.

We buy the ticket, drive you there and drive you back, and then leave you alone. There is no guide inside the park - a guide in a theme park is an expensive way to walk slowly - and that is why this day costs less than our guided programmes of the same length.

Itinerary

Day 1Hong Kong Disneyland: A Full Day in the Park

What this park is
Hong Kong Disneyland opened on 12 September 2005 at Penny's Bay, on the north shore of Lantau. It was the first Disney park in China and the second in Asia after Tokyo. The resort occupies about 126 hectares of reclaimed land; the park itself covers roughly 27.4 hectares of public area, which makes it the smallest Disneyland-style park in the world. When it opened there were four themed lands. There are now eight, and the reason one day works here is the size: the walk between lands is short, the layout is compact, and most guests get through the attractions they came for without the twelve-hour marathon the bigger parks require.

The lands
Main Street, U.S.A. leads in from the gate and is the park's evening photograph. Fantasyland holds the castle and the classic dark rides; Tomorrowland has the Iron Man and Star Wars attractions; Adventureland runs the Jungle River cruise and the Festival of the Lion King show. Three expansions followed in quick succession and they are the strongest reasons to come: Toy Story Land in 2011, Grizzly Gulch in 2012 and Mystic Point in 2013. Mystic Point's Mystic Manor uses a trackless ride system developed only for this park and has no equivalent in Anaheim, Orlando, Paris, Tokyo or Shanghai.

Cultural Insight
The park was laid out with feng shui in mind. The most often quoted example is a walkway that was deliberately given a bend, so that good qi would not drain in a straight line into the South China Sea. The castle has been rebuilt as well: the Castle of Magical Dreams replaced the original Sleeping Beauty Castle in 2020, roughly twice its height, and it celebrates thirteen Disney princesses and queens rather than one.

World of Frozen
The newest land opened in November 2023 and is the first fully themed Frozen land in any Disney park, with Frozen Ever After and Wandering Oaken's Sliding Sleighs. It is the headline item of a HK$10.9 billion expansion programme announced in 2016, and it changed the demographic of the park noticeably. The resort welcomed its hundred millionth guest in December 2023.

How we run the day
Your vehicle collects you from the hotel and takes you to the gate; we buy a dated one-day ticket for your travel date in advance, because the park prices by day and the peak days sell out. Inside, your time is your own - a private guide would only slow you down in a theme park, so there is none, which is also why the price is lower than our guided days. Meals inside the park are not included and are paid for as you go; there are table-service restaurants, quick-service counters and a food court. The evening show at the castle runs before closing, and if you want to stay for it, the vehicle waits.

Meals
None included - in-park dining is at your own expense.

Accommodation
Day programme - no hotel night included.

Trip Notes

Three things worth knowing before you book. The park prices by date, so the ticket cost moves with your travel day and peak days sell out - we buy as soon as your dates are fixed. Meals inside are not included, and budgets are usually higher than guests expect: the park has one table-service restaurant per land. And the evening show at the castle runs before closing; if you stay for it, the car waits, so tell your driver at drop-off what you intend to do.

Q: Is this tour private or shared?
A: It is a private tour. Only your own party travels with the guide and vehicle, so the pace and the order of stops can be adjusted on the day.

Q: What is the best season for this itinerary?
A: April to June and September to November bring the mildest weather and clearest light. The programme runs year round, and we adjust the daily timings in mid-summer and winter.

Q: Can you handle dietary requirements and accessibility needs?
A: Yes. Vegetarian, halal, gluten-free and allergy-aware menus are arranged when you tell us in advance. Step-free and low-mobility versions of the route can also be planned.

Q: How do we book and pay?
A: Send us your travel dates and group size for a same-day quotation. A deposit confirms the booking, the balance is due before arrival, and prices are guaranteed for 7 days.
