Overview

A five-day working programme in Shenzhen for importers, sourcing managers and trade delegations. It combines the Huaqiangbei electronics markets with a structured component sourcing workshop, the Qianhai cross-border services zone, a working visit to a technology enterprise matched to your sector, and a day in the Dongguan and Huizhou manufacturing corridor that sits forty minutes up the road.

Shenzhen is the right city for this because the supply chain is physically here rather than a flight away. Its gross domestic product reached RMB 3.873 trillion in 2025, roughly USD 557 billion, growing 5.5 percent - the fastest rate among China's four first-tier cities - and its total foreign trade of RMB 4.55 trillion was the highest of any mainland city, with exports in first place for a thirty-third consecutive year. It is the headquarters city of Tencent, DJI and Huawei, and output of industrial robots rose 43.1 percent last year to 194,900 units while civil drone output reached 7.45 million units. Hong Kong is a thirty-minute drive or a fifteen-minute high-speed train ride away.

The commercial logic of the itinerary is deliberate sequencing. Day two is the market, where pricing and availability are set. Day three is the legal and financial wrapper around it - Qianhai, where qualifying enterprises in encouraged industries pay fifteen percent corporate income tax - and a company visit that shows you what scale actually looks like. Day four is the plant floor in Dongguan and Huizhou, where the quality control either holds up or does not. By day five you have three independent views of the same supplier base.

Who it suits. Importers and distributors qualifying new suppliers, corporate procurement and supply-chain teams running audits, hardware and consumer-electronics companies exploring manufacturing partnerships, and trade delegations who want market access plus genuine factory access in one week.

Scheduling note for 2026. Shenzhen hosts the thirty-third APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on 18 and 19 November 2026, with the APEC CEO Summit and joint ministerial meetings alongside it as part of China's chairmanship year. Hotel rates, airspace and road access around the venue are affected through that period, so if your travel falls anywhere near November, book early and let us build the schedule around it.

Frequently asked.

  • Can the factory visits match our industry? Yes, and this is what makes the week worth running. Tell us your product category at booking. Consumer electronics, components, LED lighting, small appliances, power supplies, vehicle parts, robotics, medical devices and smart hardware are all represented within an hour of Futian.
  • Will our Mandarin be enough? Most market traders and many plant managers do not speak English fluently. Your LinkedTours guide accompanies you as commercial interpreter and negotiator on the market and factory days, which is the single most useful thing we provide.
  • Can you verify a supplier before we order? The sourcing workshop on day two covers registration status, business scope, export licence, references, sample and tooling charges and payment structure. We can also arrange third-party inspection on request, charged separately.
  • Do you handle shipping and customs? We set out the routes - consolidation through Yantian and Shekou, air freight from Shenzhen Bao'an, or road into Hong Kong - and the compliance paperwork including CE, FCC and RoHS documentation and lithium battery shipping restrictions. The freight contract itself is placed in your name, so you keep control of it.
  • Can you add Guangzhou, Foshan or Zhuhai? Yes, subject to schedule. The Greater Bay Area high-speed network puts Guangzhou about thirty minutes from Shenzhen and Hong Kong about fifteen. Extensions are quoted separately.

Highlights

  • Huaqiangbei, the densest electronics trading district in the world - 1.45 square kilometres in Futian holding around 115,000 businesses, 35 specialised markets and more than a million distinct electronic components, turning over above RMB 480 billion a year with buyers arriving from 183 countries and regions.
  • A component sourcing workshop, not just a walk-through - you leave with a comparison sheet setting each shortlisted supplier against unit price, minimum order quantity, lead time and payment terms.
  • Supplier verification and commercial terms - registration status, business scope, export licensing, references, sample and tooling charges, inspection rights and remedies for non-conforming goods, all covered in a working session.
  • Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone - the pilot district where qualifying enterprises in encouraged industries pay fifteen percent corporate income tax, with preferential cross-border renminbi arrangements for treasury, logistics and professional services entities.
  • A technology enterprise visit matched to your sector - a capability briefing, a walk through the line, laboratory or demonstration area where access allows, and a management question-and-answer session on the topics your delegation came to discuss.
  • The Dongguan and Huizhou manufacturing corridor - Songshan Lake Science City, where more than 3,000 companies operate across 72 square kilometres and Huawei's Ox Horn campus houses around 30,000 research staff, plus the Huizhou industrial belt.
  • A Greater Bay Area commercial briefing - Guangdong's RMB 14.58 trillion economy, Shenzhen's trade position, sector-level export data, and the practical effect of the November 2026 APEC leaders' meeting on business travel into the city.
  • Private business-class vehicle and commercial interpreting throughout - dedicated car and driver for the duration, airport transfers on arrival and departure, and a guide who works as your interpreter at the negotiating table rather than only in the vehicle.

Day 2Shenzhen: Huaqiangbei Electronics Market and a Component Sourcing Workshop

Morning - the district and the museum
Huaqiangbei is a 1.45 square kilometre trading district in Futian, and it is the densest concentration of electronics commerce anywhere. Around 115,000 business entities operate inside it, including 35 specialised markets and several thousand component suppliers. The floors carry more than a million distinct electronic components, from packaged integrated circuits and passives to finished AI glasses, drones and service robots, and the district turns over more than RMB 480 billion a year. Buyers arrive from 183 countries and regions; peak single-day footfall has reached 850,000, and more than 8,000 overseas buyers pass through on an average day. Over 20,000 foreign entrepreneurs have settled here to trade.

Start at the Huaqiangbei Museum, opened in 2020. It traces the district from the "one-metre counters" of the 1980s, where traders sold imported capacitors and resistors on information asymmetry alone, to today's rapid-hardware ecosystem of chip design, tooling, firmware and small-batch assembly. Your guide sets out how the district actually works before you walk into it: which buildings specialise in which component families, how pricing is quoted, and where the counter trade ends and the company trade begins.

Midday - component sourcing on the floor
With your guide working as commercial interpreter, you work a shortlist across Huaqiang Electronics World and the neighbouring malls. Expect to compare datasheets and package options, ask for samples, and negotiate unit price, minimum order quantity and lead time on the components that matter to your bill of materials. The district's supporting base is what makes this practical rather than theoretical: more than 5,000 component suppliers, over 3,000 research and design companies and some 200 prototyping and test houses sit within walking distance, and the fastest component sourcing response is measured in hours, not weeks.

The local rhythm is worth seeing in person. Huaqiangbei operators describe their cycle as design in the morning, prototype in the afternoon, mass production the next day and export within the week. Not every supplier will work at that pace for a new foreign buyer, and part of the day is spent separating the ones who can from the ones who are simply quoting.

Afternoon - sourcing workshop
Back at a meeting room, a sourcing facilitator consolidates the day into a working file. The session covers supplier verification - registration status, business scope, export licence, recent references - and then the commercial terms: payment structure, sample and tooling charges, inspection rights, warranty and remedies for non-conforming goods. You leave with a comparison sheet showing each shortlisted supplier against unit price, MOQ, lead time and payment terms, and a clear view of who is worth a second meeting.

The workshop also covers getting goods out of the Greater Bay Area: consolidation and freight forwarding through Yantian and Shekou, air freight from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, and the road route into Hong Kong. Compliance is part of the agenda - CE, FCC and RoHS documentation, lithium battery shipping restrictions, and the paperwork needed to clear samples without paying duty on a commercial consignment.

Evening - Cantonese business dining
Dinner is Cantonese, which in Guangdong is where most useful commercial conversations actually happen: steamed seafood, roast goose and a shared table. Delegations that would rather keep working can take the evening for their own meetings in the Futian CBD, or take a short walk along the Shenzhen Bay waterfront.

Business note
Supplier introductions are matched to your product category at booking. Specific markets, companies and meeting rooms are confirmed in writing before arrival, and where a named supplier cannot host on your dates an equivalent supplier in the same component family is substituted and the substitution notified in advance. Where a company visit requires site access, full names, nationalities and passport numbers are required at least fourteen days ahead so that visitor clearance can be processed.

Day 3Shenzhen: Qianhai, a Technology Enterprise Visit and a Greater Bay Area Briefing

Morning - Qianhai and the cross-border gateway
Qianhai is the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, built on reclaimed land on the eastern shore of the Pearl River estuary and about fifteen minutes from the Hong Kong border crossings. Its purpose is specific and commercial: to move capital, goods, talent and data across the boundary between mainland China and Hong Kong more freely than anywhere else on the mainland, and to test the rules that will later be applied more widely.

For foreign companies the headline is tax and treasury. Qualifying enterprises operating in encouraged industries inside the zone are eligible for a reduced corporate income tax rate of fifteen percent, and the zone operates preferential cross-border renminbi arrangements that make it a practical place to run a regional treasury, a logistics entity or a professional-services arm. Your briefing is delivered by a zone-side host and covers the eligibility tests, the registration route for a wholly foreign-owned enterprise, and the current position on cross-border data and payment flows.

Midday - technology enterprise visit
Shenzhen is the headquarters city of Tencent, DJI and Huawei, and the industrial base behind them is what makes a visit here worth the flight. The city's districts are specialised, and the day is shaped around yours: Nanshan for software, hardware and robotics; Futian for finance and professional services; Bao'an for manufacturing and logistics, next to the airport; Longgang and Pingshan for the large-scale electronics and new-energy vehicle plants.

The visit itself is a working one rather than a showroom tour: a product and capability briefing from the host team, a walk through the line, laboratory or demonstration area where access allows, and a question-and-answer session on the topics your delegation came to discuss - supply relationships, distribution, technology licensing or joint development. Where a company cannot receive foreign groups on your dates, we name a substitute in advance.

Afternoon - Greater Bay Area briefing
The briefing puts the two visits into a commercial frame. Guangdong's gross domestic product reached RMB 14.58 trillion in 2025, growing 3.9 percent and holding its position as the largest provincial economy in China for the thirty-seventh consecutive year. Shenzhen's own GDP was RMB 3.873 trillion, roughly USD 557 billion, up 5.5 percent - the fastest growth rate among China's four first-tier cities - and its total foreign trade of RMB 4.55 trillion was the highest of any mainland city, with exports in first place for a thirty-third year running. High-tech product exports rose 10.1 percent. Output of industrial robots reached 194,900 units, up 43.1 percent, and civil drones 7.45 million units, up 40.1 percent. Strategic emerging industries now account for 43 percent of the city's GDP.

The session also covers the calendar. Shenzhen hosts the thirty-third APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on 18 and 19 November 2026, under the theme "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together", with the APEC CEO Summit and joint foreign and trade ministerial meetings alongside it. China is running around 300 APEC events during its chairmanship year. For anyone scheduling business travel into Shenzhen in the second half of 2026 that matters practically: hotel rates, airspace, road closures around the venue and meeting availability all move during the leaders' week, and this briefing sets out which weeks to avoid and which to book early.

Late afternoon - Shenzhen Bay and the Super Headquarters Base
Shenzhen Bay is the clearest single view of where the city's corporate money is going. Tencent is building its "Penguin Island" campus on Dachan Bay - an 809,000 square metre site intended for around 80,000 staff - while DJI has committed RMB 2.287 billion to a new global headquarters tower in the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base, with about 188,000 square metres of floor space and a 300 metre height limit. ByteDance's Houhai Centre and JD.com's Shenzhen headquarters are in the same district. A drive through the base, with commentary, is a fast orientation to which sectors are expanding and which companies are committing long-term capital here.

Evening - at your leisure
The evening is yours. Delegations that came to open doors usually use it for a first round of relationship building; others take it to see the city. We can hold a table for Cantonese dining or leave the evening entirely free, as you prefer.

Business note
Briefings inside Qianhai and company visits are subject to host calendars and are confirmed in writing before arrival. Where a named institution or company cannot receive a foreign delegation on your dates, an equivalent host in the same sector is named as a substitute in advance. Passport details for all delegates are required at least fourteen days before any controlled-access visit.

Trip Notes

Before you book.

  • Do we need visas, and does the 240-hour transit rule help us? It often does. Shenzhen Bao'an airport and the Shekou, Futian and Luohu ports are all designated entry points for China's 240-hour visa-free transit, and separate unilateral visa-free entry applies to citizens of a range of countries for stays up to 30 days. Shenzhen also sits inside the Guangdong 144-hour and Greater Bay Area arrangements. The eligible-country list changes, so confirm your delegation's nationalities with the nearest Chinese embassy before booking; we issue the confirmed hotel bookings and day-by-day programme needed for any application.
  • Should we avoid travelling in November 2026? Shenzhen hosts the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on 18 and 19 November 2026, with the CEO Summit and joint ministerial meetings running alongside it. Hotel rates, airspace and road access around the venue are affected for a wider window than the two summit days. If your travel falls close to November, tell us early and we will build the schedule and hotel selection around the restriction.
  • What exactly does the sourcing workshop give us? A structured session rather than a walk through the market. It covers supplier registration status and business scope, export licensing, reference customers, sample and tooling charges, minimum order quantities and payment structure, with your guide interpreting and, where useful, negotiating on your behalf. Third-party inspection can be arranged separately.
  • How do we pay and what about shipping? Alipay and WeChat Pay accept international Visa and Mastercard, and both are widely used in Shenzhen. For freight, we set out the realistic routes - consolidation through Yantian and Shekou, air freight from Bao'an, or road into Hong Kong - along with the compliance paperwork including CE, FCC and RoHS documentation and lithium battery shipping restrictions. The freight contract is placed in your name so you keep control of it.
  • What is the pace, and how many sites can we realistically cover? This is a working week, not a sightseeing week. Two full days are commercial, one is a company visit and briefing, one is a plant-floor day in Dongguan and Huizhou, and one is a half-day of orientation before departure. If you want factory visits to match your exact product category, tell us at booking; consumer electronics, components, LED lighting, small appliances, power supplies, vehicle parts, robotics, medical devices and smart hardware are all represented within an hour of Futian.
  • Passport, insurance and changes. Ensure every delegate's passport has at least six months' validity and blank pages. The insurance included is a standard inbound policy at 30 CNY per person per day; we recommend a comprehensive corporate policy covering medical evacuation and cancellation. Plant visit schedules and government facility access can change at short notice, and where a named visit becomes unavailable we substitute an equivalent business element of equal value.
