Luoyang is one of the cities where China's industrial base was deliberately built, and it is a useful place for a manufacturing delegation because the founding plants are still in production. China First Tractor and the Luoyang Bearing Group were both established in the First Five-Year Plan of 1953-57, with their own housing districts, schools and hospitals; the machinery and the industrial organisation are both still visible.
This five-day programme combines plant visits with briefings on supply chains, quality systems and the shift to automation, and sets them against the heritage of the same city: the Longmen Grottoes, the White Horse Temple and the Shaolin monastery on Songshan. It is arranged for corporate groups, industry associations and business schools, and the plant visits are always subject to the host companies' own schedules.
