Full Day: Mutianyu Great Wall: Depart early for the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, located about 1.5 hours from downtown Beijing. This section is known for its stunning scenery and well-restored condition. You will ascend via a modern cable car to enjoy breathtaking views of the wall snaking over mountain ridges. The walk along the wall offers a mix of restored and rugged sections, allowing you to appreciate both its grandeur and its historical texture. The surrounding forest creates a beautiful natural setting, especially vibrant during autumn.
Morning: Olympic Park: Visit the Beijing Olympic Park, the main venue for the 2008 Summer Olympics. You will see the iconic Bird's Nest (National Stadium), with its intricate steel lattice structure, and the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center), now transformed into a popular indoor water park. Walking through the park gives you a sense of the scale and ambition of the games and allows for excellent photo opportunities.
Afternoon: Lama Temple and Confucius Temple: Spend the afternoon as described in Itinerary 4, visiting the Lama Temple and the neighboring Confucius Temple and Guozijian. This combination provides a deep dive into Beijing's spiritual and scholarly heritage.
Morning: The Summer Palace: Revisit the Summer Palace for a more in-depth exploration, perhaps taking a boat ride on Kunming Lake or climbing Longevity Hill for a bird's-eye view of the complex.
Afternoon: Free Time or Silk Market: Depending on your flight schedule, you may have free time for last-minute souvenir shopping at a place like the Silk Market or Yashow Market, or simply relax before heading to the airport.
